I’m working in Fort Frances where mild weather only arrived a few days ago. I hadn’t even considered ice conditions at Skootamatta. But it is, indeed, time for the Great Canadian Skootamatta Ice Contest. Spring arrives tomorrow and with that Cottage Season can’t be far behind. So, when do you think the ice will go out? It was early last year and we almost didn’t get the contest in before the official ice out date.

I’ll use the same section of lake as in the past. That being the area between Oborne Point and Bible Island. The official date will be when there is more water in that section than ice. Send your guesses in by replying to info@skootamatta.ca. Pick your best date! Time of day doesn’t matter. There are usually several correct guesses so we will have a run off at the AGM in July.

The contest closes on Saturday, March 26, 2022 at 11:59 pm. Prizes are huge…HUGE…. Well, I hope you like ice cream.
