** DARYL NELSON HUDGIN OCTOBER 16TH, 1948 – FEBRUARY 6TH, 2025 ————————————————————
** It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden but peaceful passing of Daryl Nelson Hudgin at the age of 76.
Daryl was born in Oshawa to Charles and Doris Hudgin (nee Miners) and was the older brother of Donald.
Daryl’s early passion for sport led him to becoming a decorated athlete. He received an induction into the Oshawa Sports Hall of Fame as part of the Oshawa Tony’s National Championship winning teams in 1970 and 1972.
In 1970 Daryl met Joan (nee Lewis) while attending Durham College. The two were married and soon after had three children; Jennifer (Shawn), Mackenzie (Scott), and Bryan(Janelle). In 1976, the family settled on a property on Grasshopper Park Road in what was to become the family homestead.
Houses were renovated, barns were raised, animals were fed and many memories were made. The house became a place where family, friends and in some cases entire sports teams were entertained and encouraged to stop by.
Daryl continued his work as a leader in the home building community and saw him rise to the President of Durham Region Home Builders Association.
Daryl also dedicated many hours to kid’s sports, volunteering with swim clubs, hauling horse trailers, coaching hockey and managing baseball teams.
In 2000, Daryl and Joan purchased a cottage on Lake Skootamatta. They would continue entertaining friends and family up at the lake and spend many long sunny days there in retirement. The memories kept on coming.
Throughout his life, Daryl remained a dedicated and highly respected leader. He was an excellent mentor and role model and quietly provided every opportunity for those closest to him.
In private moments he was also a very funny and candid man. There were few who could produce a better ‘one-liner’ right to the end.
Daryl’s legacy will live well past his time, and his warmth, dedication and unwavering love for his family will never be forgotten.
Daryl was a proud and supportive Poppy to Clair, Ethan, Nathan, Quinn, Reed, Harland, Violet, Levi and Edie-Rae.
A Celebration of Daryl’s Life will be held at the Tyrone Community Centre, 2716 Concession Rd. 7, Clarington, Ont. on Saturday, April 5, 2025 from 1:00 – 4:00 pm
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honour Daryl’s memory by cherishing time with loved ones and enjoying a game of golf, hockey or baseball in his honor. ————————————————————
