It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Marty McBride at the age of 50 after a fierce battle with cancer. As comedian Norm Macdonald said, “People don’t lose their battle to cancer. Cancer dies when a person’s body dies. That to me, is not a loss. That’s a draw”.
After a short stay at Ian Anderson House, Marty passed peacefully with his wife Erica holding his hand while “Harvest Moon” played. He is predeceased in death by his Dad, Ron McBride and stepdad Pat Falby.
A loving and loyal father, husband, son, brother and friend, Marty grew up in Mississauga and was blessed to have a lifetime of adventures, mostly legal, in Clarkson, Rattray Marsh, at McMaster University and his second home at Skootamatta Lake with amazing groups of lifelong friends.
He loved spending time every summer at Skoot with friends and family. He passed that love on to daughter Stella with the purchase of our own cottage in 2010 and he worked endlessly to renovate our little “full of potential” cabin. He taught Stella to master piloting the pontoon and ski boat in anticipation of future summer adventures at the Dam, Upper Beach and other favourite lake spots.
He is survived by his wife Erica, daughter Stella, dog Archie, his mom Jane, brother Jay (Anne Marie), stepbrothers Andrew, Scott (Mary), Dave (Anna) and his “sister” Laura. He will also be fondly remembered by his Clarkson and Skoot families. Loved by nieces and nephews, both blood and honorary, Uncle Marty could be counted on for mischief, legendary tube whips and the occasional rule-bending when Moms weren’t looking. A lifelong love of music had him keeping the steady beat while drumming with “North of 7” during long weekend gatherings, or boathouse jams.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to Ian Anderson House to help support their tremendous work helping families. A special thank you to everyone at Trillium Health Partners, especially Drs. Kaizer, Mohammed and Dhillon for their support over the past years.
A celebration of Marty’s life will be held Saturday, March 5th at The Walden Club (1400 Walden Circle – parking at 1271 Walden Circle or Clarkson Go) with visitation from 2-5 and 7-9. The dress code is strictly cottage casual (hoodies, cozy pants, flannel, comfy clothing) as we share laughter and stories about the amazing man we were all blessed to have had in our lives.
