The Ontario Government is proposing to establish a hunting season for the double-crested cormorant. See the proposal here.

Lake Steward, Anders Holder, provided the following information on the presence of this species on Skootamatta.

During any given summer, there are usually a pair, or two, of double-crested cormorants on Skootamatta Lake, but they pose no threat to the lake, nor surrounding environments. This is primarily due to the Skootamatta watershed being on the fringe of their seasonal breeding range, along with competition for similar prey with the common loon and common merganser. While we know of several areas farther west and south that are having issues with these birds, we do not feel this is an issue within the Skootamatta watershed. It is also important to remember that double-crested cormorants are a native species to Ontario.
