Fire Ban Being Lifted May 16, 2020

The following message was issued today by Addington Highlands Fire Chief Casey Cuddy:

Please be advised the Ontario MNRF has notified me they are planning on lifting the RFZ (provincial fire ban) at 12:01 tonight.   They will be making the announcement later this morning.

As the municipalities did not put on a fire ban this means we will be going back to the standard outdoor fire restrictions:

  • Campfires less than 1 metre in diameter constructed on bare rock or mineral soil are permitted at any time of day.
  • Burning of forest debris is permitted only after 7 pm and must be out by 7 am.  Piles cannot be larger than 2 metres.
  • Anyone having a fire is responsible for the fire and any suppression costs.  They must be in attendance at all times while the fire is going.
  • Incinerators may be used to burn paper, clean wood, forest debris provided:
  1. It is constructed of a Non-Combustible Material.
  2. It is enclosed with a metal mesh of 5 millimetres (1/4 in.) or less.
  3. It is located on mineral soil or rock extending at least 2 meters (6.5 ft.) beyond the incinerator.
  4. It is at least 10 meters (32.8 ft.) from a property line.
  5. It is at least 5 meters (16.25 ft.) from trees, buildings or any flammable materials.
  6. It is a maximum of 0.5 cubic meters (17.7 cubic feet) in size unless approved.

Thanks, everyone for all you do in preventing fires.
Have a safe weekend.
